Fortnite Battle Royale is a corporate sandbox game with survival as the main objective. 100 people land on a single map, playing alone or in a team of four, then collect loot and destroy opponents. In single player mode only one survivor out of a hundred wins, in cooperative mode – the team with at least one survivor.

Upon release, the game gained immense popularity as it is completely free to play. Two weeks after release, Fortnite Battle Royale online reached the 10 million player mark, a year later the game had more than 125 million players. The online record for 2020 is 12.3 million concurrent players.

After the release of one of the first global games in the genre of “battle royale” PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, a lot of gaming companies began to develop similar games. After all, the immense popularity that PUBG gained can be shared between several big projects, right? In the same year, the American company Epic Games started developing Fortnite. The game was made on the same engine as PUBG – Unreal Engine 4, only it boasted something that PUBG didn’t have – good optimization. Moreover, Fortnite became free-to-play, unlike its main competitor. If at first Epic Games didn’t want to copy PUBG by creating a zombie mode called Save the World, then later they changed their mind. Calling the PvP specialists who had once created Unreal Tournament, in just two months the company developed Fortnite Battle Royale mode, where (like in PUBG) 100 people fought on one map until the last survivor. The mode quickly gained popularity, and the developers of PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds remained puzzled. Still, after some time they sued the American company Epic Games, claiming that they partially copied the interface, gameplay, as well as the structure of the game. But the case, for unknown reasons, did not find its end. In the same year, the developers of PUBG withdrew the lawsuit.

Atmosphere

The main difference between Fortnite Battle Royale and other games in the genre of “battle royale” is the authentic, drawn graphics. The authors approached the development of the game creatively, and, as it may seem, they took a cue from Dota 2, one of the most popular online games of our time. And it worked! The unique graphics managed to make Fortnite Battle Royale stand out from other battle royale games and attract a huge audience. Moreover, the game presented exotic gameplay features, like the ability to destroy almost any item. But it starts out the same.

If you’ve never played Fortnite Battle Royale, all of the above information may be foreign to you, but that feeling will be lightning fast after a few hours of play time. And yes, the map also narrows down over time, as it would take forever to find the latest opponents.

Gameplay

Since Fortnite Battle Royale’s engine is the same as PUBG’s, the gameplay isn’t much different from its competitor. The game eliminates seriousness, so you don’t have to sit in the bushes and watch for every rustle – find a weapon and run to the vanguard! Shooting here also does not require special skills, because your character can jump high enough and at the same time shoot accurately. Taking a sniper rifle in your hands, you will not need to calculate the distance or wind, just point a little higher and – penetration. But the coolest and (in some places) cheating move are the buildings. In just a few clicks you can build a tower of mazes, from which to conduct a barrage of fire on enemies.

Graphics

As we mentioned above, Fortnite’s cartoonish graphics are a specialty of this game. It looks not only beautiful, but also inventive. Especially, it does not burden the overall FPS level. Unlike PUBG, the game boasts a high degree of optimization, due to which it finds common ground even with weak computers. Fortnite Battle Royale eliminates a large number of bugs, bad physics and soapy textures, which is extremely important for normal gameplay.
